Images Problems

Oh blogger. Why choose deadline day to refuse to display any ones images?

I'm going to do my best tonight and try and re upload the missing images. But so far, I think it's only happening on Mac computers because my PC showed them up fine last night. However, a lot can happen in six hours when you sleep. So, sorry for the massive white space where images should be, I'll try and do my best.

Audio

Here are a few 'audio' files I have been looking at for my idents. I wanted the robot theme to run with the music, so allot of it is quite trance like. Each robot has a theme and this needs to be shown within the soundtrack.

Queen Ft Daft Punk; We will robot rock you: For Murphy (robocop) I wanted somthing upbeat and heavy like the character:


Pendulum; Spiral: I wanted somthing that sounded similiar to the Blade Runner soundtrack, if not the song it's self:

Mad Capsule Markets; Scary: Bender needs something similar to Muprhy's, something a little on the heavy side but fun at the same time:

Saberpulse; A girl I know & Light speed disco: For both Wall-E (and possibly Marvin) I have 2 saberpulse songs in mind. It sounds like someone recorded from their sega but they're both light and 'happy' (which doesn't really work for Marvin.)

Marvin is currently my problem character than I can not find an appropriate song for.

Warlock-Necrosha

I know he isn't film based, but comic base but the visuals and artist liberty's with this character really work. It doesn't matter what one artist makes him look like, another will completely change him yet it doesn't take away from his character. That's, and it's spiffy!

I'm under the impression that Quesada also did the tittle logo which is what I'm interested. But I'm not sure. (Trying to find this out is like blood from a PC...)

And yes, it is still Warlock based. I'm not going to bore you with the details but the logo also shows the cybernetics/robot parts that are similar to what run's through my idents.

Like A Robot

I wans't sure what was going to come up when I typed "robot music" into youtube but here are a few video clips. This one caught my eye first. I'm not a big fan of hip hop, and it's not about the song but the simple visuals they use for the video. If I'm being blunt, it's a bit of a miss mash of "robotics" but there are some effective things like the loading visuals.

Fosters Intro

Ok, we all know I'm a big kid when it comes to cartoons. This is one of my favourite ones, and it's intro really reminded me of what I want to achieve in my after effects. The way the building draws it's self in the beginning. I know the cartoon was done entirely in flash, not after effect but it's the effect I'm after.



Too bad it got cancelled/I don't have cartoon network any more.

Robot Comics

I know I'm supposed to be doing Robot films but this is one of the 'nicest' (ugly word) piece of comic cover art I have seen in a while:

There's just something about it that makes the Graphic Designer in me very happy. The simple use of colours as well as the old feeling of penguin books. (At least I think it's supposed to be penguin? Not to sure on that one.)

I think perhaps the whole series is like this but I'm not to certain when it comes to Iron Man. (That's the boyfriends domain, not mine)

And here's the first one, I sort of figured they'd all be running on the same theme:

I know that currently Stark is one of Marvels "most wanted" in terms of story. “Stark Disassembled,” shows who Tony Stark is when you remove all of his carefully crafted artifices. Fugitive Tony Stark is hiding from Norman Osborn a database containing the identities of every superhuman on the planet. Because the information is contained in Tony’s brain, he's been using powerful technology to wipe it from his mind. The unfortunate side effect of this process is that other things are being erased as well, like memories and skills.

Do The Robot

A nice little animation from the Vancouver Film School. The design of the background in the tittle sequences as well as the robot concept art is something I want to look into for my Idents.



The Iron Man Intro titles:

I LOVE the retro feel of this tittle sequence. It might be a little too advanced for what I want to do but it's in the right area. One of Iron Mans suits, I guess, can be considered robotic as it gains sentient life. But, that obviosuly hasn't come up in the films yet. Other robots would be his little helper bot who is a bit too helpful.

Movie Season: Robots = <3

So i've decided to look at Robot's for my movie season. I've always had an interest in robotics whether they be nuts and bolts or made of more electrical substances.

A list of my favourite robots:

• Warlock (New Mutants) :

Who, unfortunately, he isn't in a movie yet. Though the next five years looks promising. But knowing my luck, they'll mess up the franchise one again.

• Marvin The Paranoid Android (The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy):

I love both versions from the new film to the old series. (As well as the book.) He's not so much paranoid as depressed.

• Roy Batty (Blade Runner):

Who doesn't like murderous blonde robots with the mental age of a toddler?

• Officer Alex J Murphy (Robocop):

I was obsessed with these films when I was little, I think that's what started my fondness for robots.

Movie Season Ideas

I've had several Idea's for the Christmas brief, mostly revolving around the 5 ten second idents rather than the 50 second clip. I think overall this will be easier for me.

Ideas:

• Stop Motion such as 'Dougal and the blue cat' from 1970 - to Coraline from last year.
• Straight to DVD films that where actually good. (Which as of this moment, off the top of my head I can't think of any)
• Horror Movies...Hmmm blood and gore.
• Robots/cybernetics/artificial intelligence
• Books to Film. There are tones of really decent and really bad adaptation of films.

Story Boards: Bio Shock Style

So I've been looking into different types of story boards for this module. The great thing about story boards is that they have a really strong link with comic books. These are some from upcoming bio shock 2K games. ...It's already been pre ordered and I can't wait to get the Deco Devolution Art Book for it.

I think I prefer the story boards to the actual 3d rendered animation. There's just something about that style of animation that I find a little "tacky". If you're going to 3d animate, make sure it looks right. But then again, it's Hello Kitty.

Kinetic Type

Some of my favourite Kinetic Typography animations from across the internet.

You can see with the progression with this one. As stated, the student spent a long time on the animation, learning the program as they went much like we're doing. Unfortunately I don't think I have enough patience to spend this long on After Effects.



I like the textured feel of this one and the way the camera isn't stationary or controlled.
